What we collect

For a student account, we collect a first name or chosen nickname (never a full name), grade level, and learning activity — the questions attempted, answers given, time spent, and the mastery scores our adaptive engine computes from them. We do not require a student's email address when a teacher or parent creates the account.

For a teacher or parent account, we collect an email address, display name, and, for parents, the information needed to link to their child's account.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

CogniMesh is built for use by children under 13 under the supervision of a parent or school. A student account is created one of two ways: a parent registers and links their child, or a teacher provisions accounts for their class as part of the school's use of CogniMesh — both are recognized bases for consent under COPPA (direct parental consent, or a school authorizing use for an educational purpose). We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child outside of one of these two paths.

A parent can review the personal information we hold about their child, request a correction, or request deletion at any time — see "Your rights" below.

How we use it

Learning activity data drives the adaptive engine that selects each student's next question and reports mastery to their teacher or parent. We do not use a student's data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Who can see it

A student's teacher and linked parent can see that student's progress. Students cannot see other students' data. CogniMesh staff can access account data only to operate and support the service, and third-party processors we rely on for hosting, database, and email delivery only ever see what's needed to run those services.

Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account's email and display name to create or match your CogniMesh account. We don't receive your Google password, and we don't post to your Google account.

Data retention

We keep account and learning data for as long as the account is active. There is no self-serve account deletion yet. To delete a student's data, a parent or teacher emails us (see "Your rights") and we delete it by hand. Our daily backups are kept for 7 days, so deleted data leaves the backups within 7 days after that.

Your rights

Parents and teachers can request access to, correction of, or deletion of a student's data at any time by emailing admin.alokasys@gmail.com. We respond to verified requests within 30 days.
